Known Limitations

Hyperborea works well for most users, but there are some constraints to be aware of.

One Device Per Subscription

Each Hyperborea subscription covers one NordicTrack device. If you have multiple NordicTrack machines, you will need a separate subscription for each one.

Console Must Stay Powered On

Hyperborea runs as an Android app on your NordicTrack's touchscreen console. The console must remain powered on for Hyperborea to broadcast data to your fitness app. If the console goes to sleep or shuts down, the Bluetooth connection will drop.

Tip: Adjust your console's sleep/screen timeout settings to prevent it from turning off during a workout.

Wi-Fi Required for Linking and Updates

Your NordicTrack console needs a reliable Wi-Fi connection for:

  • Initial device linking — the pairing code process requires internet access on the console.
  • Automatic updates — the APK downloads updates over Wi-Fi.
  • Subscription verification — the app periodically checks that your subscription is active.

Once linked and running, the Bluetooth broadcast to your fitness app works locally and does not depend on Wi-Fi during a workout. However, a persistent Wi-Fi connection is recommended.

iFIT Interaction

Hyperborea and iFIT can coexist on the same console, but they cannot broadcast simultaneously. When using Hyperborea:

  • Close or background iFIT before starting Hyperborea to avoid conflicts.
  • You do not need to uninstall iFIT. Just make sure it is not actively running in the foreground or controlling the machine while Hyperborea is active.

You can switch between iFIT and Hyperborea between workouts without any issues.

Bluetooth Range

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) has a typical range of approximately 10 meters (30 feet). Keep your phone, tablet, or computer running the fitness app within this range of the NordicTrack console for a stable connection.

Walls, metal objects, and other wireless devices can reduce effective range. For best results, keep the receiving device in the same room as the console with a clear line of sight.

Metrics Vary by Model

Not all NordicTrack models report every metric. Common variations include:

  • Heart rate — only available if the console has built-in grip sensors or a paired chest strap.
  • Cadence — some treadmill models do not report cadence/stride rate.
  • Resistance vs. incline — bikes typically report resistance level, while treadmills report incline percentage.

Hyperborea transmits whatever data the console makes available. It cannot generate metrics that the hardware does not measure.

Android Console Required

Hyperborea requires a NordicTrack with an Android-based touchscreen console. It does not work on:

  • Basic LCD-only consoles without a touchscreen
  • Older models without an Android operating system
  • Non-NordicTrack equipment (ProForm, Peloton, etc. are not currently supported)

If you are unsure whether your console runs Android, check for a touchscreen with app icons or settings menus similar to an Android tablet.
